I have set up a new website that will host my blog, go to…
Hope it encourages you!
1] Who do we rely on in the midst of suffering?
2] Why do we need community in our mission?
3] What do we celebrate and who do we celebrate it with?
4] Who are we sharing life with and who are we investing in?
Reasons we need relationships:
1] We need them in times of suffering
1 Thessalonians 2:1-2 For you yourselves know, brothers, that our coming to you was not in vain. 2But though we had already suffered and been shamefully treated at Philippi, as you know, we had boldness in our God to declare to you the gospel of God in the midst of much conflict. [ESV]
2] We need them for this Journey
1 Thessalonians 2:3-4 For our appeal does not spring from error or impurity or any attempt to deceive, 4but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts. [ESV]
3] We need them for Celebration
1 Thessalonians 2:13 And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers. [ESV]
Imagine if we all lived with a passion to share with anyone and invest in someone
Proverbs 27:10 Do not forsake your friend and your father’s friend, and do not go to your brother’s house in the day of your calamity. Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away. [ESV]
2Corinthians 12:14-15 Here for the third time I am ready to come to you. And I will not be a burden, for I seek not what is yours but you. For children are not obligated to save up for their parents, but parents for their children. 15I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. If I love you more, am I to be loved less? [ESV]
1] What are some ways we can show compassion to another this week?
Accept & Admonish one another – Romans 15:7, Colossians 3:12-13
2] How can we “be there” for someone this week?
Bear with one another – Galatians 6:2, Ephesians 4:2
3] Who needs to hear encouragement from me this week?
Concern for one another – 1Corinthians 12:25, 1Thessalonians 4:18
Devotion to one another – Romans 12:10, 1Thessalonians 5:11
Imagine if we treated one another the way Jesus treated us
Go read Matthew 6, yes the entire chapter, and notice the 3 things Jesus tells us before He says, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life…”.
I heard a guy share this last week, and it made me examine my own life.
Notice what Jesus says in Matthew 6…
Verse 5 – “And when you pray” or pray like this…
Verse 16 – “And when you fast” or fast like this…
Verse 20 – “lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven” or give like this
Then you get to verse 25, “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life…”.
3 solutions to being anxious…
1] Pray something
2] Fast something
3] Give something
Thats it, obey Jesus on this one!
How to be Intentional with Relationships:
1] Be sensitive to those where you work, live, play, study, and shop
Be on mission, look for opportunities to love/invest in those that are right in front of you, daily.
What are some ways we can be intentional where we work, live, play, study, and shop?
2] Genuinely strive to show love to people
This is a lost art, we tend to look past people. Stop and listen to others, ask to pray with and for them.
How can we demonstrated genuine love for those around us? How can we serve them?
3] Take opportunities to share Jesus
Who is someone you can share Jesus with and how will you go about it?
So, what is your NEXT STEP with the people God has placed in your life right now? Maybe today your next step is to surrender to Jesus and begin to be intentional with DROPPING the GOSPEL LIKE its HOT!!!
Imagine being intentional, now, with relationships that could last for eternity
Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother. [KJV]
a] If you want friends then choose them
b] Choose them wisely [or they could ruin you]
c] Be friendly – friend means one who loves, not one who is loved and chased after
“You can make more friends in two months by becoming interested in other people, than you can in two years by trying to get other people interested in you.” – Dale Carnegie
Jesus had 12 and 1 betrayed Him. He can relate with betrayal. Some of us hold back because we have experienced this… those that are suppose to love us the most can hurt us the worst. Forgive and move forward. We don’t forget, because His forgiveness is supernatural enough to give us the power to remember, and yet still forgive & love people!
Even Jesus called us His friends, because He loved us, forgave us, and desires a relationship with us!!!
John 15:15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you. [ESV]
What does He do for friends, helps them know the Father. Not only does He call us friend, but He took the first step to be our friend, He chose His friends, and that was us. He died for us when we were NOT His friends!
Romans 5:6-8 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 8but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Imagine treating 1 person the way you wish everyone would treat you
Learn to love them because Jesus loved you.
Learn people skills.
Invest in 1 person over the next month, serve them, and lose the idea they need to focus on you!
Read: Proverbs 18:24, Acts 2
1] What is involved in developing healthy friendships?
2] As followers of Jesus where should our relationships lead us to?
3] List out the relational aspects of the early church and discuss with your P.o.D. [small group]
Mark 10:46-52 And they came to Jericho. And as he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind beggar, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside. 47And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” 49And Jesus stopped and said,“Call him.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart. Get up; he is calling you.” 50And throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus.
51And Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” And the blind man said to him, “Rabbi, let me recover my sight.”52And Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith hasmade you well.” And immediately he recovered his sight and followed him on the way. [ESV]
1 thing happens when Jesus makes us see:
We begin to follow Jesus – Seeing Jesus should lead to following Jesus
